Donald Haynes was born in Salinas, California. Apart from two sojourns in Indiana, he has lived all his life on the west coast. He and his wife Lois now make their home on Washington’s beautiful Whidbey Island.
As a younger man he held a variety of jobs, from falling and bucking in the woods of the northwest to editing a bimonthly newsletter for a UAW local.
He earned a BA from the University of California (Berkeley), an MA from the University of Oregon and a PhD from the University of Notre Dame.
After teaching American literature for a number of years he left the academic world to create Haynes & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in corporate communication. Later he moved on to become Executive Producer of a division in an NBC television station. He left there to become a principal in a video production house where he wrote scripts for video short stories used in corporate settings.
He has been writing fiction full time for over twenty years. Only recently has he begun to publish from a store of novels set in the Land of Otherwhere.
